About Kronor & Beyond
A practical money guide for expats navigating Swedish financial life.
What this blog is
Kronor & Beyond is an English-language personal finance blog for people who've moved to Sweden and are figuring out how money works here. That means banking, investing, insurance, housing, telecom, tax — all the things that are obvious once you know them and completely opaque until you do.
The content is written for English speakers who don't yet navigate Swedish bureaucracy fluently. No Swedish required to use this blog.
Who it's for
You'll find this blog useful if you're:
- An EU/EEA mover in your first one to three years in Sweden
- A work-visa holder setting up your financial life from scratch
- A student or accompanying partner trying to make sense of Swedish systems
- Someone who's been here a while but still has gaps — an ISK account you never opened, a home insurance policy you're not sure about
Who's behind it
This blog is written by an expat living in Sweden — someone who arrived without a working SIM card, lost money on currency conversions before finding better options, and learned the hard way that the Swedish system rewards knowing the order of operations. The content comes from personal experience, extensive research, and a lot of conversations with other expats about what they wish they'd known sooner.
How the blog makes money
Kronor & Beyond earns revenue through affiliate marketing — when you click certain links and sign up for a product or service, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. There are no display ads.
We only recommend products we'd genuinely tell a friend to use. When the best option for a reader has no affiliate program, we recommend it anyway. See our full Affiliate Disclosure for details.
Accuracy and corrections
Swedish rules, fees, and processes change. We update posts when things change and mark every post with a "last updated" date. If you spot something outdated, let us know and we'll fix it.
Nothing on this blog is personal financial or legal advice. It's practical information to help you make informed decisions — but your situation is your own, and for anything significant, verify with Skatteverket, Finansinspektionen, or a qualified professional.
